Valve Asserts Its Too Early for Steam Deck 2 Despite Exciting New Releases

Yesterday, Valve unveiled three new devices, but the Steam Deck 2 was notably absent from the lineup. In an interview with IGN, the company’s engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais mentioned that the team already has a vision for the next portable device, but the right hardware for it is not yet available.

Two years ago, Pierre-Loup Griffais stated that the company does not plan to introduce a new generation of the Steam Deck in the upcoming years. According to him, it is crucial for the console to maintain a consistent level of performance, as this streamlines development for creators and avoids confusion for players, since all versions of the device can run the same games.

For now, Valve is focusing its efforts on other enticing black gadgets at high price points: earlier this week, the company introduced three new products—a Steam Machine desktop PC, the VR headset Steam Frame, and an upgraded Steam Controller. All of these are set to launch in 2026, although pricing details have yet to be revealed.
