Bethesdas Creation Engine Set for an Upgrade with Unreal Engine Elements Thanks to Microsoft

Microsoft is assisting Bethesda Game Studios in upgrading the aging Creation Engine. This was revealed by journalist Jez Corden during the podcast The Xbox Two.

According to Corden, both Microsoft and Bethesda are integrating technologies into the Creation Engine that were influenced by the Unreal Engine. The developers are reportedly using Starfield as a testing ground, specifically an unannounced version 2.0 update that will greatly enhance the game’s technical performance.

The report suggests that the upgrade is being overseen by The Coalition, the studio behind the Gears of War series. Notably, they have involved technical director Kate Rayner in the process.

Corden speculates that the improved Creation Engine will be foundational for Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI. However, he emphasized that this remains speculative and may not be confirmed.
